Race Equality at Cambridge

New University Diversity Fund (UDF) call for applications will be launched on 14 October 2021.

The Fund will provide grants of up to £1500 and will be open to applications from students and staff, aiming to support initiatives across the University that contribute to raising awareness of issues related to equality and diversity, challenge discrimination and inequalities, increase the representation of under-represented groups, and facilitate implementation of good practice.

The UDF was launched for the first time in Lent 2019, receiving 49 submissions from students, academics, and professional staff from across the University. The UDF supported thirteen projects on topics ranging from identifying barriers to implementing the University’s family-friendly policies, embedding LGBTQ+ history into museum spaces, breaking the silence about menopause in the workplace and creating targeted communications to increase the numbers of BAME student applicants to the University.

We are delighted to report on a successful implementation of many UDF projects, including the organisation of a careers conference to increase participation of BAME students in conservation research, outreach initiatives to expose children from disadvantaged backgrounds to neuroscience, and running a fascinating workshop on the history, theory and practice of anti-racist education.
